Fact check

When has Merlin been used for anything but joyrides?

Jenna has 2 trucks to take her to "market".

What market btw?

When has a hawk ever provided her a meal?

Her dogs are trained to herd sheep? That's news to me.

Her dogs herding sheep is akin to a Labrador retrieving a tennis ball.  They are working off instruct but there is no fine tuning or foundation.

Wake up!

  1. See how you are. Jenna is awesome in her own mind, and her fans are just there to support her fantasies. There was that one time she said she used Merlin to deliver some chickens to a neighbor. So, I guess that's what she meant.

  8. Not sure what to make of this...her mom must know that her posts are showing JW's true colors of not giving a damn about her family (although good point about her not having a vehicle to get her there even if she wanted to...but now that she has a "new" truck what's her excuse). I digress....I just wonder if Mom is doing more damage than good by making her pleas public &pissing JW off. Not saying anything against Mom, I think she is a saint for even caring at this point.

    1. Yes. Don't personally know anything about either of them, but it seems pretty weird to have one's mother making snarky, underhanded comments on your public FB page. The more I see, the more they seem like 2 peas in a pod.

    2. Yes, I wondered about that too. On one hand, it seems strange that she is making their differences so public. On the other hand, maybe it's the only way she can reach her.

For me personally though, I would not make it public.

  10. I think maybe her Mom refuses to sit back and pretend like Jenna doesn't have options. I think there has been some issues in that family for some time over Jenna's attitude about a variety of different things. I can imagine her parents have asked several times why in the world she doesn't get at least a part time job and stop the whole crapping in the woods and to take better care of not only herself but of her house and possibly stop purchasing things until you can afford them yourself.

It would be a strange thing as a parent to sit back and watch one of your kids beg like that over the internet. I personally couldn't stand it. To sit there and read about her going against parents wishes..like she is a 14 year old with something to prove, or her little farming community and how much she loves spending time with them and I wonder if she has googled Jenna to see what all the fuss is about when it comes to people disliking her.

I imagine it makes for some serious uncomfortable conversations between them,

  11. Jenna's mom is good people, as is her dad and siblings, all normal, happy hard working people, who value family. Jenna has done nothing but cause them heart ache, and for what? Because she is a self entitled spioiled brat. I feel for them.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I picture when Jenna was first published and first started her blog she was the pride of the family. I'm sure her parents told their family and all their friends to read the blog (who wouldn't). So now these same family members and friends are reading these posts and probably voicing their concern for Jenna's well being, esp after that blog post about no hot water, etc. So maybe Jenna's mom is posting to show people in her circle that she is involved and trying to steer Jenna in the right direction. Maybe it's more about her saving face than anything else.

  13. There's more going on with family than meets the eye. Remember how JW lied to her fans when she wrote that people dislike her because she is living the life of her own choosing? No, they dislike her because of her scamming, mooching and treatment of animals. And she knows that.

I wonder if she has 'borrowed' from family members and not paid them back. Maybe they read about her new toys and are ticked off about it. Maybe she doesn't want to go home and face family because of money she owes. Who knows?

    1. As a city slicker I have no idea how big of an undertaking it is to stack firewood...is this truly something beyond what Jenna can do on her own? Does she legit need help?
And if it isn't stacked does that mean it's just in a giant heap in her yard? I kind of got a kick out of her "vacation" idea and how it would anything but R&R..I'd bet that she not only would work me to death but would be like a car salesperson trying to guilt me into giving her $$$/buy a share of pork/buy a fiddle/buy a logo. I imagine it being a huge sales pitch from beginning to end.

    2. I heat entirely with wood. It's not a big undertaking to stack firewood. I got 6 cords delivered and it took me an afternoon. And I'm a single woman, if that matters. It's not hard work for someone Jenna's age (I'm 31). There is a proper way to do it, if you google "correct way to stack firewood" you can see a picture. Leaving it in a heap, on the ground, is NOT the proper way to stack firewood! And if Jenna's excuse is that she doesn't have the proper storage racks, etc-- I call bullshit on that. I use old 2x4's leftover from old construction projects and a tarp. The rest fits under my porch, also on 2x4's (you need air circulation underneath to keep the wood dry-- which is why it's stupid of her to keep it heaped on the ground for even a few days). Her laziness astounds me sometimes. Just go out and get things done! Stop making vlogs about Anna Kendrick and makeup!

    3. How To Stack Firewood

      1. Bend over
      2. Grab piece of firewood
      3. Stand up
      4. walk to firewood rack or storage shed
      5. Bend over and place firewood in side-by-side orderly fashion
      6. Stand up and repeat the process until all wood is stacked neatly.

I'm 54 and pick up firewood from a local farmer. Have to load my truck, drive home and then unload. I can do a cord of wood in less than 2 hours. Longer if I do multiple trips.

Not hard at all unless you're too busy vloging, FBing, riding or generally screwing around.

    4. I'm pregnant and just stacked 2 cords the other day. It's not a hard way to spend some time...it just requires not being lazy.

    6. As someone in and around her neck of the woods, I can safely say (with accuracy) way more than six. Over coffee the other morning someone brought something up about her. I think the general consensus was that we kind of hope she "falls in love" with something else, and moves on and away from here. This is said for many reasons not the least of which being her general lack of knowledge and concern for farming practices and animal husbandry. She once stated, several years ago now, that the land and having a herd of sheep meant everything to her. Yet, all these years later she has yet to do anything with the land and as far as a herd of sheep goes, well, that ship has sailed many times. There are too many sad stories of both sheep and lamb (that could have been avoided) to have that ever become a reality.

      Delete
    7. Uh, yep, more than six. Meredith, where's that screenshot you posted a while back with your blog stats? I can't find it at the moment, but as I recall, those numbers represented a far greater number.

      Delete
    8. Well, people change their minds all the time and there is no shame in that. I guess if she were to admit that her life is not quite what she wanted, change course, adapt some, change some, who would fault her for that?

I just think at this point, she's so mired into the fantasy persona of the one woman farm thing that it's gonna be a whole lot of eating crow and back peddling and explanation that she probably is dreadfully anxious and afraid of the fall out. So I suspect she will keep trudging forward and play act the part with subtle changes here and there.

I dunno. I think for myself, I watch the one woman train wreck show because I am just dreadfully interested on how it will end? Will there be more mom and Jenna tension, what animal will die next, what hobby will be cast aside and what new weird thing will be picked up? I'm dying for more of what the locals think. More perspective! Will there be another season? Hmmm....

Yet, all in all, I wish that cool author I found many years ago, the made from scratch gal would return. But there's no going back. That ship has sailed.

  23. What the hell is she talking about in that self-doubt vid, especially at the beginning. She makes NO sense at all. And, Jenna-style, blames self-doubt on others.

Cracked me up how she's talking about teaching archery, and her students are asking her all kinds of (reasonable) questions. Again, Jenna-style, JUST JUMP IN and DO IT! Why even hire a "teacher" if that's all they say? No instruction at all, because she doesn't know what she's doing.

She's obviously never grown herbs on her windowsill. Do you know how big dill gets???? LOL

    1. She's not a very deep thinker. But I think that's a common problem these days. Too many people want to blame other groups, people who don't agree with them, or anyone who offends or "shames" them. So they go through their lives being entitled, whiney and offensive.

Dill doesn't get very big around me because I eat it faster than it can grow. Same with basil and rosemary.

  25. Jenna's style of homesteading is rather like a gateway drug for those who dream of homesteading and self reliance and just latch on to the first talking head they THINK is doing it. She just has the ability to "work" the crowd. Anyone with a half hour on a farm or has read any decent book on any of the subjects begins to realize that she's just spewing out what she's read or watched on another youtube video and is now suddenly an expert.

It's just amazing. Blind leading the dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The new vlog on self-doubt has a few weird tidbits.

She says if you break your leg, your sheep will starve.......how is this acceptable? And she's built a life so challenging she would be at a loss if plopped on the beach for a two day vacation? Geez. What's so tough about having some backyard livestock? A real challenge is running an actual farm that pays the bills.

Am I the only person who thinks Jenna was raised as some super-privileged poodle puppy that never lifted a finger for herself?

Re:her mom's badgering her to attend family holidays: True, Jenna is an adult and if she's not going, it's her choice. She should tell her mother that without muddying it with any farm-inspired excuses. Making excuses leaves room for negotiation and debate. Personally, I suspect Jenna relishes the drama and making her mother beg.

I found it interesting that she offended a trans friend of hers with her post and she didn't bother to acknowledge their comment. She's essentially blasting hot air at her public with no regard for it's reception or impact.

    1. I do believe she has an extreme sense of entitlement. I'm a few years younger than her and I can't get over her view on life and how she expects things to be handed to her. Growing up, I had a firm understanding you work for a living. I hated my first real world job and called my dad in tears. He responded lovingly, the real world stinks as do first jobs. It's great motivation to work harder so you don't ever have to do another job like it again.

      Delete
    2. You're right, Anon 9:46. And somewhere along the way that entitlement turned into complete narcissism. She does strike me as being like a spoiled child, and someone (ah hem...) spoiled her. I'm not saying blame your parents for all your actions until the day you die, but I do not think she started out on the right foot. However, as an adult you do realize the errors of your parents, and should realize that you are now responsible for your own behavior and attitudes. Oh, and you are responsible for supporting your own damn self.

    3. I find it very odd that JW and mom hash out their differences on social media. WTF? Ever hear of a phone? Ever hear of the saying "Don't air your dirty laundry?" And how about, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" ???

  27. I think maybe JW found that she doesn't really like farming. It's too much work for her, boring or whatever. She acts like a child who begs for a puppy, then doesn't want any part of taking care of it. She only wants the fun parts.

We really don't hear much about actual work, animal care, gardening being done. It's all meaningless babble about makeup and celebrities.

    1. Yeah, I'd agree with that for sure. She puts out a call for help with the most basic jobs--- stacking firewood, handling hay etc. Jenna was just following the hipster herd when she set out to farm. When the popularity dies down she will move on to something else.

      Delete
    2. TOTALLY agree. The only problem is that Jenna doesn't really have a PlanB to generate income without going back to work. She has really painted herself in a corner. In the meantime, she neglects anything homestead related that doesn't directly result in $$$. Sad.

      Delete
    3. Painted into the corner is right, Anon 3:16. In a recent vlog she lamented how much of her life she has shared online and perhaps that was a mistake, being too honest and opening herself to criticism and all that. I couldn't tell if she enjoyed the irony of saying such a thing while, you know, over-sharing her life online.

And I agree with her in one respect; honesty at this point is a definite liability, and she's going to have to lie her way out of this whole pickle. She can't improve her animal infrastructure without tacitly admitting that what she had wasn't even up to her (low) standards. She can't get a part-time job without eating a thousand words about how she won't/can't get a part-time job. And she can't stop over-sharing her personal life, despite receiving male attention and comments that she claims are occasionally frightening, because it's one of the few salable products she's willing to produce. That is no joke, to be afraid of putting yourself out there, and then feeling forced to do it anyway because it's a primary source of income. I find it way less heroic and way more tragic than most of her followers do.

  40. Selling Merlin would just be another part of the adult life. I'm sure we all have had to give up something we loved, whether it be animal or hobby or just stuff.

I know I have. And, in the end I was better for it because it gave me the breathing room I needed to get back on track.

One of the reasons I have not replaced my dog is because of my work schedule. It would be alone far too long during the day and I don't want to hire someone to come in and walk it or play with it.
