Plans

Not planning is the problem.

100% of preventative problems are a result of not planning.

You know who you blame preventative problems on? Yourself.

Don't be a problem, prevent one.

"Accidental breeding! The lack of reputation any puppies from this farm would have and their littler worth to you as a sheep dog handler. It was highly insulting to me, and I don't even plan on breeding them. Which I stated several times. "

Humble and kind

Sometimes radio songs hit home...

Help the next one on line.

Adele Douglass: Perjury

It's safe to say no one wanted Commonwealth v. Lerner, Sandy recorded, not Sandy Lerner or Humane Farm Animal Care (Certified Humane) founder and director Adele Douglass.  I am the only one who hired (and paid) a court reporter to record the trial.

Guess whose lawyer has already requested a copy of the transcripts from the company I hired? Adele Douglass's from Humane Farm Animal Care. Recall she perjured herself in court. I anticipate she is very nervous and already has her lawyer on the case at the expense of HFAC.

If you donate to HFAC your money not only supports animal abuse but legal fees related to perjury.

Just wait until HFAC and Ayrshire Farm are charged with fraud.

One step at a time.

Step 2 here we come.

Easter Egg Hunt?!

Cropped to respect the identity of a minor.

This was posted on Facebook by a friend of her daughters Easter egg hunt.

I think its a glowing example of what's "wrong" with America.

How is this a hunt?!

Court update

Here's a more thorough summary of what occurred in court on Wednesday.

On a positive note while I was outlawyered and the judge didn't find Sandy Lerner criminally guilty he did make it very clear this farm neglected their pigs and denied them of required medication and treatment for weeks at a time. This trial also verified a veterinarian never was called to see or examine any pigs. Ayrshire Farm indeed is guilty of violating state code. Crystal Ritenour, the Large Livestock Manager, testified that pigs already had died as a result of withholding treatment by the time Loudoun County Animal Services got involved.

The code section Sandy Lerner was charged with stated "failure by owner to provide". As the owner of the farm Sandy Lerner was able to skirt responsibility by hiding behind her staff. The judge interpretated the code section with caution. Sandy allows the violations to occur, she doesn't directly participate so the judge did not find her guilty for the neglect.

On record we have staff of Ayrshire Farm admitting under oath to not properly treating pigs and delaying the pigs treatment in an effort to remain organic. Under oath they confessed pigs died as a result of withholding treatment.

None of my concerns were dismissed. They were validated.  Imagine my surprise when in court I saw Ayrshire Farm had printed all my pictures (I had to provide their defense lawyer during discovery) and created farm records that previously didn't exist.

Sandy Lerners defense attorney even went as far as denying she owns Ayrshire Farm.

If only the statute of limitations wasn't so short, the defense tried to state this was an isolated incident when in fact it occurs on a routine basis at Ayrshire Farm.  It took a 7 hour trial to address just a month of abuse, it would take weeks to address what happens in a year's time.

Such a pathetic group of people who do not care for the animals at all.

The faster those pigs grow and get slaughtered for market the better, being neglected and abused by Sandy Lerner, Crystal Ritenour, and staff is literally hell on earth.

Please do not support Ayrshire Farm or any business that uses or sells their products. This includes Hunters Head Tavern and the Home Farm Store.

Supporting Ayrshire Farm is supporting animal abuse.

Court

A judge listened to this case for 7 hours.

He acknowledged neglect of state several pigs over the course of week's.

Coincidently the defense used all of my own pictures (receiver through discovery) to create records of treatment...where they claims treatment began the day i stopped living at the farm and most of the animals miraculously bounce back...you know except for the few that died.

Their vet testified that he was not on the farm and didn't examine any of the pigs but that it was a tough year on animals and he trusted Ayrshire Farms methods.

I didn't cross examine him well. I didn't do much of the lawyering well.

Bottom line,  the judge recognized these animals were neglected, that Sandy was the owner, the charges were based on a new code, but he couldn't beyond a reasonable doubt convict her.

I don't recall everything I was seeing red and in tears.

I only had 6 weeks to work with and couldn't support these abuses with all the others. Their vet blamed it on the weather, the staff blamed it on the pigs...

I'm not done fighting for the pigs and fighting against the corruption.

Slow Motion

So many motions!

Trial is set for Wednesday March 16 at 8:30am in Loudoun County General District Court in Leesburg VA.

When I was terminated from Ayrshire Farm I told them I would fight for the pigs regardless if I was on or off the farm. That was in June 2014.

On March 16 2016 Sandy Lerner, owner of Ayrshire Farm, will defend the charges of failing to provide adequate care to her agricultural animals.

20%

What Jenna doesn't mention is the rest of the article...

Increasing Lamb Survival
This article first appeared in The Shepherd in 1996, Vol. 41:12 and has since appeared in The Wool Sack, 1997 Spring Issue.

by Mike Neary
Extension Sheep Specialist
Purdue University

Most sources on lamb mortality report that the average death loss of lambs nationally is somewhere in the range of 20 to 25% of the number of lambs born. Furthermore, the majority of lamb mortality occurs within seven days of birth. This is a tremendous amount of reproductive wastage on an individual farm basis and for the sheep industry in its entirety.

Under most circumstances, it would be impractical to have a production goal of zero mortality. However, by proper management of the flock at key times of the production cycle, the amount of young lamb mortality can be reduced. A realistic goal of 10% lamb mortality is attainable by most producers.

Before Breeding

Yes, lamb mortality can be reduced before fertilization even occurs. Proper reproductive and health management of ewes and rams can prevent lamb mortality and lambing season problems.

Screening of the ewe flock should occur before breeding. Ewes with bad udders and any other physical limitations (bad eyes, feet, mouths, etc.) should be culled before breeding. Records of past years’ performance can be used to predict future performance. Ewes that were poor mothers, had low milk production, had lambing difficulties or created a problem in previous lambings would be strong candidates for culling. Usually, a small percentage of ewes in a flock create most of the problems. If the problem ewes can be eliminated, it is amazing how the problems at lambing are reduced. Keeping good records during the production year and then using them is a good investment in time.

Management! Planning! Responsible Farming!

I can't wrap my head around these "farmers" that year after year manage their animals in a "what not to do fashion".

Sandy Lerner, Jenna Woginrich...what are they thinking?!

Watching people mismanage their animals with severe ethical consequences is maddening.

This careless reckless behavior is inexcusable.

Keep breeding poor mothers who physically can't care for their lambs and their lambs will continue to die. Year after year after year.

This was written many years ago by a critic of Ayrshire Farm.

http://woolypigs.blogspot.com/2009/07/humane-farming-dead-piglets.html?m=1

Look at the original article. What it doesn't mention is knowing Ayrshire Farm management that sow crushed litter after litter after litter and I guarantee she wasn't culled and was bred to crush another litter.

Let the lassoing begin

Seriously?!

The sacrificial shepherd?!

You'd think she gave birth to these new lives herself.

"It is getting easier, lambing season. I have no regrets even though my eyes have insane bags and my body is as bloated as deer on the side of the road."

"The money I have right now needs to go to other places more urgent right now, or I would build a lambing barn."

...but I'm still going to breed. Its not due to ignorance...it's reckless carelessness.

Heartless.

I could be prepared but I'd rather buy beer.

That's what I read.
