The buck stops here

http://coldantlerfarm.blogspot.com/2015/11/the-buck-starts-here.html?m=1

Bringing a buck that needs fed 365 days a year to breed just 2 goats once a year? Interesting game plan.

Wonder if he's proven?

Also, quarantining new livestock is always a good idea.  Hope the missing hair isn't caused by a parasite or other contagious condition.

  1. I just posted a rant about this on an earlier thread. It is.... INSANE. Everyone knows that this is the time of year when people dump their "hayburners" (before the winter, when it is most expensive to feed).

You could literally trawl Craigslist (at least in my area) and acquire enough animals for free, or dirt cheap, to populate an entire farm during the fall. But! You'd have a farm full of old, non-producing, sterile, injured, diseased, temperamental, or otherwise non-desirable or lower quality livestock. If they were young enough, or not sick or flawed in some way, they would or sold for a pittance to a clueless buyer. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And yes, even if the buck was "Free", it will need to eat 365 days a year.

  2. Well, I for one, am suspicious that she's not feeding the goats well enough to milk a full ten month lactation. From what she's been saying it seems like they only produce milk from late spring until early fall. I can't imagine why they would dry up so early on unless they were not being fed particularly well. Crappy hay? No grain? Just not enough of either?

  3. Also, I see she ruled out bucks that were meat breeds-- crossbreeding with boar bucks is a great way to add value to the offspring-- especially if she's not planning on replacing or adding to her own dairy goats..... sigh.....whatever...Jenna knows best!

  4. And furthermore.... there have been zero (ZERO) updates on Friday getting spayed, and Gibson is intact. Plenty of careful people manage intact dogs in their household, but when has she ever demonstrated exceptional animal husbandry? If you can't manage your own sheep, there's no way you can manage an intact male dog that wants to get at a female in standing heat. I seriously hope I'm wrong and have somehow overlooked her spay happening.

Like when you've eaten something terribly unpalatable and suddenly have to just turn away and leave the table. The continuing saga is a just a creepy ick now, and the piteous winter interlude for her poor animals - never mind her, I'm so over her refusal to make anything better - is about to begin. :(

  7. I posted this over in the Grandparents section. Pardon the repetition, but.....

I've had goats, but never a buck. I know she doesn't have the setup. Bucks can range from cantankerous to just plain dangerous. That buck is not quite old enough to see which way it's going to go, but they are a handful and need their own accommodations other than being in with the does on occasion. Her fencing is definitely not "buck-proof".

I just hope nobody gets hurt.

  10. From Dairy Goat Journal:

A buck should not be placed in a yard or pasture without strong fences, because once he gets out, it’s even harder to keep him in. Fences for standard size dairy bucks should be at least five to six feet high.

    1. If she is pregnant, it is dangerous to Friday since she is so young. No dog should be bred until about 1 1/2 years old when they are fully developed.
The puppies would also be in danger of being killed since a dog that young might not know how to care for them.
Expenses for prenatal care and possible c-section aren't cheap.
There is the possibility Jenna would have to bottle feed the puppies since Friday is so young.
It is EXTREMELY irresponsible for her to not spay Friday and let an Ooops happen.
But of course she will probably have to learn this the hard way.
She is the epitome of a careless, callous animal owner.

    2. Forgot to add that this won't be so cute if Friday dies during the birth (common with dogs who are bred too young).

  18. As someone who breeds only a couple goats each year, I find nothing wrong with her getting a buck to breed to her does.

    1. Urine scald is quite common with bucks in rut, because they pee on themselves CONSTANTLY. Urine scald causes hair loss.

    2. Most bucks are not like rams, and they are very easy and quiet to keep. I've NEVER had or used a buck that was not a perfect gentleman. Most bottle fed bucks are sweethearts (not like rams) and even those dam raised bucks I've used were very polite.

    3. I don't milk my does for 10 months. You *can*, but it doesn't mean you have to. I prefer to not milk through the holidays, because it's cold and I like to travel, so it's easier for me to dry them off and not have to get the farm sitter to milk in addition to feeding.

    4. It's very common with those of us without extra space to use a buck (or ram, if you've got a handful of sheep) for one season and then sell him or eat him. Very common. Nothing wrong with it.

    5. It's not common to spread CAE through breeding, so she's safe there. Unless there's an active CL abscess, it's unlikely he'd transfer that as well.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I don't know anything about goats, so have no opinion there. My objection is that she posts her mortgage is three months late, she needs money for hay and firewood, then she goes and gets another mouth to feed.

      Delete
    2. Thank you for providing this infor for those of us that aren't as familiar with goats. It makes total sense.

For me, if it was anybody but Jenna I would have probably applauded and maybe asked questions - hoping to receive a response like this.

But I am assuming given Jenna's past behavior that she won't be able to adequately feed or shelter this extra animal. The fences won't contain him any better than they contain the does now.

      Delete
    3. It makes sense that she needs to keep the milk flowing to enable her to have milk/make cheese/make soap/etc. I just question why she isn't borrowing him so that it isn't another mouth to feed/animal to keep contained behind flimsy fencing. I guess in the long run she won't have to worry about searching for another buck, but considering her financial crisis that she wrote about, I feel like it's just another animal that will get displaced when the house goes into foreclosure...

      Delete
    4. Anon 9:12, I beg to differ on a few of your points.

      1) In tact Billy Goats can, and will be a total pain in the butt to keep. They can become very butty. You say you have bred a couple. I have bred hundreds. 2) CAE spreads from animal to animal, once there is a popped abscess, and once you have it in your animals, you cannot legally sell the meat. You *need* to test for it before you breed animals. Please don't share inaccurate information here.

      Delete
    5. Anon 10:03:- I did not say ALL bucks are a pain. I am only pointing out that bucks can be very polite and nice (and in my experience, most are). Of course, I don't know anyone who would knowingly keep a mean buck, just like with mean rams.

And CAE does not spread via abscess. You are thinking CL. Please don't spread misinformation. Testing for CL can be inaccurate, because the CL vaccine will cause animals to test positive, even if they do not have the disease. Also, there is no law requiring animals to be CL free. If there were such a law, there would be MUCH fewer cases of CL in sheep and goats. It's not exactly ethical to knowingly sell an animal with abscesses for meat, but it isn't against the law.

CAE is spread via milk and (rarely) other bodily fluids. It's easy to prevent the spread of CAE by removing kids from their dams (if the dams are positive) and bottle feeding them milk replacer or milk from negative animals.

    6. Thanks for the goat info Anon 9:12!

I'm find the short lactations her goats have puzzling-- I believe they freshened the end of May and are now dry. They'll also have a very long dry period (5 months)....it just seems like an unnecessary waste to manage your goats so unproductively. I realize you don't have to milk them for ten months but if you're not leaving your farm anyway and it keeps you from having to buy dairy products why wouldn't you?

      Delete
    7. Thanks for that Anon 9:12, yes, I mistook the two. THe bottom line is, CL is so prevalent, I would make darn sure that the buck came from a clean flock. The same with CAE. She has so few (two) Does, it would be simple to have a clean flock. What klnd of goats do you have? How big?

      Delete
    8. I have Oberhaslis. They're full sized dairy goats, but not as big as Saanens.

I second the CL thing, because it can be zoonotic and drinking raw milk from a CL positive goat is risky, especially for immunocompromised people.

    2. 12/07/2014 CAF Blog

"I write for a few hours, working on the novel Birchthorn. Over 15 thousand words into that novel now, and it is coming along at a farmer's pace. I imagine it'll be finished by late spring at around fifty thousand words, a chunky novella. The new section will be uploaded tomorrow morning to the blog for the Kickstarter members".

      Kickstarter campaign 8/2014
      @15,000 words 12/2014
@30,000 words 2/10/15 stated in the Kickstarter update stating it will be edited spring, and printed in the summer
2/10/2015 she has 100 pages and expects to have 100-200 more approximately 50,000 words. So 20,000 more words needed to hit that mark beginning 2/10/15 .

Kickstarter campaign- 244 backers raised $15,675 ; "$20.00 backers can expect an e-book summer of 2015"

So I wonder what has been accomplished word wise, page wise since 2/10/2015 update. I am imagining 15,000 words equaled the first 100 pages as stated. Then 2/10/2015 the 30,000 words could have meant a 100 pages more. So from 8/2014 until 2/10/2015 (6 months) 30,000 words were produced. Someone once asked if this book was the same one she was working on before that they had donated to and she said "no- it's an entirely different one" or something like that.

10 more months have passed...nothing. Updates don't give clear information for 10 more months worth of work. Simply first looking for an editor, then found an editor, then trying to work out the ending, delayed from summer to early fall release to yuletide release for e-book only.

This book could of and should have been done by summer but that would have required the hard work most authors put in and a good deal of the endless amount of fun had by the author would have had to have been skipped. I follow several famous authors on FB and though they have fun, no doubt, when they are in writing mode, they write. They write day and night because that's what it takes to create a good read and call yourself an author.

I also have two friends who are graphic artists who are swamped. Neither of them at this time have websites but both have hired someone to create one to be ready by 1/2016. Between logos, branding, Christmas cards, stationery(which is really big right now) they are booked solid. Again, even though they both have families to care for, and yes they even do fun things, they devote themselves to their customers, customer service and their work. It pays the bills. They advertise on craigslist, local papers, laundromat walls, bars , social media sites-everywhere. You can be a successful homesteader, author even graphic artist but you HAVE to work at it, not just talk about it and consistently disappoint or not deliver to your audience. The state JW is in right now she has created for herself because she cannot and will not commit to hard work when she can have fun (and not work) and collect regular donations from such willing fans/followers.

A number of people have suggested you find part time employment and I second that idea. I think you are seeing the reality of your farm not being able to sustain itself and that doesn't make you less successful. Every time you blog about being short of money and potentially losing your dream, you are also losing credibility. Every time you offer discounts on upcoming workshops you decrease the amount of working capital you'll have at that time which makes you over extended. You really need to find a way to increase your cash flow without looking to your followers. It is one thing to need help in a crisis but another when it is for day to day existence.

Doglady I think you are misreading what was being asked. I am not asking anyone to do anything but help promote what I am offering with my business through social media. I am not asking for any sort of donation, and frankly, any sales or discounts I want to offer is literally - my business.

I addressed the part time job idea in great detail in a comment above. It is the number one fastest way to lose this farm. I'd make a lot more money selling 3 half priced logos in one morning than I would working at Stewarts 32 hours a week.

I can't control what you or anyone thinks of me or my credibility, and it is none of my business either. But I need to wake up every day and respect and love the person in the mirror. So I live a way that makes me feel like that, and part of it is understanding all the input (good and bad) I am given by strangers.

I appreciate everyone's comments and words. All I am asking for is some help spreading the word. I am not ashamed to share when things are hard here, not at all. It is my choice to share this part of my homesteading/small business/freelance life.

  36. Wow, Heather, (crashdown) said everything we've said here, including the telecommute job idea. I thought she was very kind and straight to the point, covered it all, and Jenna did her usual snarky response and accused her of being unkind.

Now she has posted some long gobbledygook about being a homesteader. "Accomplishments and Goals are your favorite drugs"???? WTF???? So much denial. I. Can't. Even.

    3) Accomplishments and goals are her fave drugs- yeah, like upping the # of marks each month, and her goal of how much she can scam from people.
    4) So independent that she cannot function without donations
    5) Nervous about the state of the world, especially what her favorite teen idol is kvetching about.
    6) You don't consider MONEY wealth, but rather, DONATIONS of money IS wealth
    7) Yes, you hate working (PERIOD) but for people seems so much more INDEPENDENT.

  43. "Real value is learning skills. Not buying toys."

    Ummmm.

Also, the bit about the foraging models to top a venison steak with slayed me, since she has neither killed a deer nor hunted wild mushrooms, as far as her readers know.

If she has done those things, that would make a killer blog post. If she has skills she values over toys, I want to see them.

If she spends her money on good lumber, I want to see what she's done with it.

It's easy to write in homestead-y platitudes, but that's all she does. Let's have a post on foraging for nuts, berries, herbs, and mushrooms. Let's have a post on making do with what you have- darning your socks instead of buying new ones, or ways to stretch a cut of meat into a week's worth of meals.

Those are the things homesteaders do. Those are the things people reading homesteading blogs want to see.

    1. I can see why, the content they or she provided on their FB page today is total nonsense. She is so far removed from the reality of homesteading. all that she can provide is her own form of schtick. I read quite a few homesteading blogs, the Elliot Homesteading blog for one, that are real life real problems types of blogs. I haven't found anything in 30+ years of subscribing to farm journals, growing up on a farm, becoming a part-time farmer and living my whole life in a farming community that even closely resembles the utter distorted reality and live like a fictional comic book character life portrayed on CAF. Thank you to whomever mentioned the Elliot Homestead blog. Shaye's blog is a great example of what a homesteading blog should be. I also follow a blog written by a woman with two daughters who completely remodeled a trailer or doublewide basically by herself. While doing this she also grew her own food. She and her daughters are perfect examples of the can do type of attitude it takes to be a homesteader. Now she has moved to a piece of land, that again she has completely renovated herself, and raises animals on it. She gives people hope, and she teaches her readers how to do for themselves. This is what readers want to read. This is exactly what sells books, as well as helps people live a more sustainable life. What JW did and wrote about was years ago. She's been thanked by way of selling books and gaining an audience. That was then and this is now. It's not what she's doing today nor what I imagine she'll be doing tomorrow.

Even what her sister wrote, "what else do you need?" Leads me to believe her family has already helped her and thought it was enough.

  56. Since I've always thought of myself as a compassionate person it has been a new experience to feel my adamant refusal to continue to extend those feelings to Jenna - and my now enormous dislike of her personally.

I have many faults and weakness myself, reactions I'm not happy with, and a slew of invisible disabilities it's easy for me to feel ashamed of, especially since they are difficult or impossible for many people to "get".

I tend to (to a fault, probably) call myself out frequently for the behavior I regret and feel uncomfortable about: lots of apologies, trying to own up, be more aware in the moment. I've been told I'm too critical of myself to the point of needing to be gentler and cut myself some slack. I am extremely self-aware (usually after the fact, not while I'm in the midst of acting rudely, e.g, or failing to pay attention where I should),

Perhaps this is part of the reason why I find myself so infuriated with Jenna who (beyond all the obvious ways she has been a bad actor in animal husbandry and business dealings) are stubbornly prideful, unable to reflect on their patterns of behavior, cannot admit to the most blatant errors in judgment or ethics, and refuse to learn from their mistakes.

She has had so many chances to grow and change from her bad choices, to say thank you easily and frequently, I'm sorry, I didn't realize, what was I thinking, I get it (or at least I'm trying to).

While clear-eyed self esteem is good, unearned, pretentious, humble-bragging is very unpleasant.

I SO dislike hypocritical and boastful people, especially those who are simultaneously whining about how bad things are (although she certainly would beg, haha, to differ) - and always spinning excuses (explanations, right?) so she can continue to feel special, smart, and entitled.

A bit of real humility and a bunch of self-reflection go a long way, especially if you want people to be able to tolerate you enough to keep extending a helping hand.

Perhaps one of the most irritating manifestations of her obnoxious personality is her insatiable need to be "special, smart, and entitled" (as you noted) as well as unique and different.

I think this may play into her refusal to return to regular employment--- only ordinary people go to a 9-5 not dire wolves like her.

  57. I know her type.
My father had a drinking problem and hated authority...so he started his own company so he couldn't be told what to do.

My previous boss had mental health issues and also could not deal with being told what to do so he started his company. His behavior ranged from being a narcissistic a-hole to curling up in a ball on the floor in the back room crying his eyes out. Good thing he was the boss, his erratic behavior couldn't get him fired.

We know for a fact Jenna can't adhere to deadlines and hates being told what to do. She might have a drinking problem.

  58. I've been following her for only a couple of months. I have read her books, many blog posts, and most of the videos. I thought she was so much more interesting to read about/watch on video when she had a job and could support the farm and animals. She seemed so much happier and upbeat. She can say what she wants about having the life she loves, but I don't feel that when I watch her or read her posts. She just looks drained and unhappy. Things were better when she had enough income from her regular job, and when she was out meeting people and participating in activities. Seems like now she doesn't have money to do much of anything. Stress is all I see and feel from her. People comment about how she has lost weight and has gotten healthier ... I don't see health; I see stress and unhappiness. I loved her book Barnheart--she had some spring to her step in that book. What I really don't understand is--she quit her job to expand the farm--other than add a few more animals, I question what she is doing to make it grow? What about making products to sell-she has the time now. Writing, blogging, logo work, work shops--they all bring a little money in, but obviously it's not enough to support her. I won't send money--not happening. I do get concerned about the animals. If she is so poor that she can't buy day to day things for herself, what is happening to the animals?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, she seemed much happier when she was still employed. Maybe it was because the whole "start a farm" project was new and it was invigorating and exciting. Sometimes I think that's part of her core problem-- she doesn't really know what she likes and has no real passion for anything and so she jumps from interest to interest. Definitely comes across as deeply miserable despite her proclamations of bliss and contentment.

      Delete
    2. I think you may be right. What I don't understand, though, is why not expand the farm or products from the farm. People pay good money for "farm store" type products. She could sell at flea markets and craft fairs, online, craigslist, etc. She could also expand her herd of animals and sell more of the ones she produces (although the thought of her with more animals is frightening). I just don't get why she doesn't expand her farm to actually try to make it pay for itself. Then the writing and blogging could be her "extra" money. She'd still probably have to live very frugally, but at least she'd be headed somewhere, rather than just stagnating where she is. If I quit my job to make a farm pay for itself, I would be busting my butt to do just that. She's going to lose it if she doesn't do something. Unless she is just pleading poverty to get donations ... makes me wonder because it doesn't make sense.

  60. Think she might be silent for awhile, not that she's exactly good at taking hints! As others have said, the relatively deafening response to her latest missives must be (or would for those more clued-in than J) disconcerting and cause for laying low for a while.

I guess the options are a MIA silent treatment for a bit - to give people cause for concern; a super crisis straight out call for farm-saving; or seeming, at least, to cheerfully ignore that her supporters are finally drifting on and robustly post about a new adventure, purchase, or....logo, anyone? Anyone???

Tricky time of year coming for our unprepared farmer so buckle up. I think I'm dreading the turn of the CAFwheel into the new year. Autumn activities on the old homestead do not bode well for the winter. The only good news is that supposedly the weather in upstate NY this year is forecast to be fairly mild compared to the last few.

Could care less at this point how comfy she is or isn't (and after all, she has her sheepskin, dogs to sleep with, bunbaker, and rapturously magical mugs of coffee w/cream and possibly filched sugar to see her through...and musn't forget the booze) but milder weather will be so much less challenging for her poorly housed animals.

  68. Her readers have asked, at least in this past year, countless times for t-shirts, soap, something anything CAF. Apparently she's been too busy to provide her paying readers with any of it. I've sat for a year and listened to ALL of her excuses and her trying to minimize the hurt and outright thievery that she has inflicted on some of her followers/fans/customers. And when that didn't work the outright cruel manipulation of trying to scare fans by saying Merlin is being sold, or the wolves are at my door, or her blog will suddenly go silent, suddenly no more vlogs, suddenly no more homesteading bits, and then suddenly (and I thank God for this one) she goes silent on social media. Until the next gimmick (crisis) arrives on the scene.

Anything excuse she has had that she can't do, or won't do or is too scared to do or doesn't have time to do for CAF you can bet will not be used towards her heathen clan and it's members. She'll go all out because that's what she does, and always has. She commits to something new, goes all out, uses and manipulates the new found audience to buy things and do things for her. Because after all she is their leader, author, dream keeper, homesteader and on and on. And they do until they see through the veil and move on and then she accuses them all of being haters. I've read the entire blog twice and anyone can see that this year is no different than last year or 2010 or 2009. I hope the complaints are piling up at Kickstarter I really do. And I hope that all her heathen members know what they are getting themselves into. First it will be buying bees, then it will be helping her pay her mortgage so that they have a set place to meet and worship. After that she'll of course need replacements of her homesteading props because she'll try to make a comeback expecting most to have moved long past her past bad deeds.

Already she is trying to spin things to change her image. Why, no one committing bad deeds would create a web page for a group that intends on doing good deeds, would they? Let the members, buyers and readers beware.

    2. It's almost mind bogglingly unbelievable...but I really do think you're absolutely right.

I was a die-hard Jenna Fan from back when she was in Idaho. Jenna WAS me--everything she wanted was everything I wanted. As she worked towards fulfilling her heart's desires, so did I. When she moved to Veryork and was in the midst of the struggle to get her farm, I cheered her on. It was inspirational. She was my gateway homesteader. And now I'm doing it--homesteading--and she's just gone fucking nuts and off the rails. It doesn't make me want to homestead any less. I'm in it for the long haul, because I love it.

But it makes me really, really sad. It's like finding out Santa isn't real. It's like seeing Cinderella after the ball, one shoe missing and her finery all gone back to rags and ashes.

It's kind of freaking me out.

    3. Me too. I'm kinda freaked out by how far she's willing to go. But I suspect these Asatru people won't be as kind to her as we've been. If you're afraid of wolves at the door, you shouldn't go hang out with a pack of wolves. Some of them might not be fictional like she is.

  69. I won't make any mention of her being a heathen etc. That's her choice and I think she'd just love someone to start picking on her for that, so I won't. And I would encourage those who are tempted to go down that road not to. JMO.

That said I read through some of the group's goals, future meetings etc. I was quite miffed when I got to the part about a small food drive for seniors. I am assuming these are seniors still living in their homes? Why on earth would you call for items like cake mixes and frosting. These are seniors we are talking about. If anyone is here reading that belongs to the group please consider things senior citizens actually need. Your leader it would appear it quite out of touch with the different populations surrounding her. Seniors could use canned soups, canned vegetables, canned fruit even some fresh fruit, crackers, tuna, pumpkin puree for sore or upset stomachs, bone broth, pickles, holiday cookies, peanut butter, jam, coffee, tea, canned meats-yes, like tuna. It's hard to come up with non-perishables. Even at our local shelter I always brought fresh-fruit,veggies, venison and baked goods along with canned. Bah humbug to the rules (but I do understand to some point why they exist) they must have finally felt that too as this year fresh products are welcome. It makes me sad to think seniors may be given box stuffing, cake mixes and potato flakes. It's a nice thing to do, don't get me wrong, I applaud the thought. But hope someone puts a little thought behind it as they take collections for food. JM2C

    1. I don't think her particular brand of religion is noteworthy or cause for derision.

I do think it's interesting that she claims to have been Pagan for 17 years when on her blog she's talked about being Buddhist.....she can't keep her stories straight.

    2. You are dead right 12:01. Anyone wanting to make a difference in a hungry persons life, especially seniors, should concentrate on the items that can make a meal. The director of our local food pantry always says "I don't want to provide a person with dessert before they had a meal."

Treats are all well and good, but nutrition is whats most important.

Cake won't get a senior through the winter, but canned soup, stews, pasta, and canned meats, beans and rice could. So short sighted...as usual.

  70. Who has time to finish Birchthorn when there are Godpoles to carve!
Also, leave it to Jenna to include the local brewery for their charity work.
I think we have our answer why she hasn't been homesteading -- she has clearly moved on to be a heathen. She is probably using the same food pantry she's getting others to stock.

  71. God Poles! We have Odin (Thanks to Tim and Jo) and I am working on the masculine god pole carving very much this month. We will have a bearded warrior to add to our god poles in the vein of Tyr, Freyr, and such. It will remain ambiguously male so we can dedicate it as the tribe needs during blot, boasts, oaths etc. Almost there and ready to be set into the good earth! Maybe even before snowily!
We are getting bees! Hives will be added to our ve, and their will be honeybees about as the horn is raised and axes are thrown next summer!
Besides the Food Pantry I have been in contact with a local woodland and farmland conservancy about the group volunteering as well as a local brewery. It seems fitting to support not just charities but local businesses, nature, wildlife, and each other. Again, neither the brewery or nature center cared we were Heathen. They were just glad for some volunteers. It felt great to get out there and ask as a Triber.

  72. She just found another reason to get people to work on her farm and to pay her way. Start a church! Yah! Being the queen priestess! She is so freaking annoying. I have never experienced such a taker before. She just takes and takes and takes.

    1. I wonder what's next? Tax free status if she registers as a place of "worship" or "church"?

    2. Nail on the head. Tax-free status if your house is also a church. She hit the jackpot on this one.

  73. What I find really interesting is that she has had the same website address for her supposed "business" which is a .blogspot, not a personal domain, while shieldmare.com and tyrsgoodhand.com are actually domains she paid for. She has the weirdest "business plan" I have ever seen. And her new sites have better navigation than the site she wants people to pay her for. I can't believe she still has fans!

  74. She's moved on to being a heathen as her new unique selling point. Well, I think she'll quickly find that it won't have as wide an audience for raking in the cash as homesteading does. There'll likely be a few people who'll join her until they start to see the light, which may happen quickly if they're not so blinded by her living their dream.

What will happen to all their god poles if she loses the farm, do you think she'll use this as a possible angle for squeezing mortgage payments out of them?

I also find it amusing that she's so desperate to be noticed. People are asking her if her hammer necklace has a special meaning? Bollocks are they. Probably someone said 'nice necklace' and regretted it instantly after getting a whole spiel about heathenry. Newsflash, it's 2015 and no one cares what religion you decide to practice. I guess it's good that she's got another reason to claim victimhood though.

Disclaimer: I have no problem with whatever religion people decide to be. I did the whole pagan thing in my teens and grew out of it. I'm agnostic/atheist now and the only problem I have with religious people is when they impose their views on others, or when use their religion to exploit people, the latter of which we all know is going to happen here.

    1. I'm sure those God poles will be fed into the Bun Baker in the middle of winter when she runs out of firewood.

  75. I'm just glad only one poor soul took her up on the Facebook offer of $150 logos. She said she would only offer that price if 5 people committed. Come on, fans! What's wrong with you! Pay my mortgage! Of course she doesn't start the work until 2016 (if at all)!

    1. yeah - so where does that leave the one person who was willing? Without a deal. What if there were 4 willing? Oops no good - sorry suckers. (JW's attitude) Your good will and desire for a product is hopeless without a 5th. She would probably tell them to find a 5th person. Seriously. Losing 4 potential customers. That's how she does business.

  76. Does anyone know what happened to Julie Williams and the ColdAntlerSham blog??? I wish it was updated and detailed so we can track all these events of scamming, from Etsy, to Kickstarter, wool, webinar, etc. It would be good to have it all organized so the newbies could see the progression of deceit.

  77. One recent commenter told Jenna to give up the farm, and move to a cheaper place bought for cash. I agree. Jenna's current farmhouse is an old, dilapidated piece of crap not worth fixing. Her barn is falling apart. The fencing on the farm is junk. And the 6.5 acres is mostly on a slope, not very good for farming.

Jenna: Sell your stock, and sell your toys. Buy some good, flat farmland for cash, get a used house trailer, and pay as you go. In no time you will be building a new home for cash, and building a new barn for cash.

Another thing, you have no useful homesteading skills that I know of. What happened to the bee-hive? Why don't you chop firewood from your woodlot? Why don't you fix your own vehicles? Get some tools, and a DYI repair book.

I would advise anyone considering starting a homestead to have a skill set in place beforehand. Go work on a farm or homestead for a couple of years, one run by competent people.

Also, if you notice, most real homesteads are run by a family of at least two people. Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto.

  78. Interesting comment about finding flat land. We live on a hill and while growing things is challenging, it is not impossible. Where there is a will, there is a way. We have a lovely orchard, berry and grape vines which are all situated on the slope of a pretty steep hill; all are doing well. You can also rent or borrow a tractor to carve out some flat spaces for growing things like pumpkins, corn, etc. And with good fencing, hills are fine for most livestock, as long as you don't let them overgraze and destabilize the hill by removing all vegetation. Salatin's rotational grazing system would come in handy there. You can also build raised beds close to your house for your vegetable crop, especially if you only need enough for yourself and are not selling any. My point is that if you're willing to put in enough effort, you can make hilly land a farm if that's what you've got to work with! Constantly climbing up and down is great for getting in shape, too. But of course the key point is that you have to be willing to put in the work.

    1. The richest farmland in the world is here in the Palouse Hills in Eastern WA. VERY hilly, but they make it work.
