We used to have one of those post hole augers that ran off our tractor PTO. We ran into problems when we let it get into the ground too far before pulling it back out. The trick was to deepen the hole a bit at a time. One time it sucked down so deep so fast it pulled the front wheels of the tractor off the ground.

ReplyDeleteOur neighbor has one and it's been such a time (and back) saver when we've borrowed it. Much easier than a conventional post-pole digger.
