The rare and elusive PA horse and buggy

http://coldantlerfarm.blogspot.com/2013/06/carts-chocolate.html?m=1

Jenna Woginrich grew up in Palmerton, PA less than 80 miles from Lancaster, PA...home of the horse and buggy.

Distance from Palmerton, PA to NYC's Central Park...about 100 miles.

She must have been raised with wool covered eyes.

  1. Oh my word, Meredith! Your thoughts and words are perfect! I hate to admit it, but this post made me laugh out loud when I read it. When I read her post that you mentioned, I had to shake my head in amazement. I guess she thinks no one will figure her out.

I too live in the middle of PA. I too have seen a horse and buggy, a horse and wagon, and, yes, the ever-elusive, "never been seen before in PA", horse and cart. And, lets not forget the quaint, old-fashioned, fallen to they wayside workhorse. You know, the kind of work horses that only a "few enlightened ones" have seen the need to start using again. I must have imagined all the Belgian workhorses, and ponies I have seen all these years have been part of my imagination.

I guess she never met real farmers that never stopped using the old ways. Most farmers I know combine the old with the new to make their farm work for them. They also hold full time jobs outside of working full time on the farm. Gee, and even find time to raise a family of Future Farmers of America. I guess that only happens in areas of PA she has never lived in or near.

Sorry about the rant...I guess I just needed to get it out of my system. Thank you for allowing me that.

    Valerie
