Let me get this straight, Ayrshire Farm fails multiple inspections by Humane Farm Animal Care finding a zillion major noncompliance with Certified Humane standards yet remains Certified. So we already know Humane Farm Animal Care is a fraud with suggestions rather than standards.
Looks like Animal Welfare Approved is the next label to prove themselves less than credible. I am absolutely shocked to announce Ayrshire Farm is now Animal Welfare Approved. Yes, you read that right. These organizations are less concerned with the ethical care of livestock than "farm collecting" to boost their numbers. This is very disappointing indeed.
Before boycotting, starting a petition, and slamming their social media pages with the facts let's give their Board of Directors a chance to comment.

Just what the world needs-- more corruption and labels that don't mean shit.
ReplyDeleteI emailed AWA and just received an email back from the program director asking for proof of the active summons against Sandy Lerner. I forwarded him correspondences from the Sheriffs Office.

DeleteSeems like an encouraging response.
DeleteIsn't it kind of redundant to be certified through both Humane Farm Animal Care and AWA?
Yes. Generally you are one or the other. It's a PR move. Trying to save face.
DeleteVery disappointing. Thankful we live in a CA county known for its intolerance of animal cruelty, whether on an industrial or personal level. You must be very frustrated.
ReplyDeleteThis is the hopeful fact finding stage...frustration comes after.
DeleteFYI,sent an email to this organization expressing disapproval.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteMeredith, as someone who's thought about raising a couple of pigs for our household, I'm curious: what do you consider best practices for this? What would the ideal homestead set up look like? Can i request a post on this? I think it might be helpful for other people too. Thanks!
