    1. The best part of the pictures at this site was the clients wife kicked back on the deck watching the show. ;)

Its amazing to watch and like I said before a man on his element is a force to be reckoned with!

    2. ...but the husband also gave us an usb drive if all the videos and pictures he took. Both genders can appreciate this controversial subject!

  2. If he were my friend or loved one,or working on my property, I'd just be concerned that he's not wearing safety equipment: goggles, helmet, ear protection, chaps gloves etc.

    1. It's second nature to him. He knows the risks. He's a grown man.

  3. That's the thing: I know the risks and statistics as well and I see in this picture someone so exposed to a machine that creates uncontrollable dangers like kickback and flying debris. No eyesight: no work. Choosing permanent hearing loss; will he hear when I whisper in his ear, or the sound of a child's voice, or the wind in the treetops?
The average chainsaw injury is 110 stitches. In ER's, the injuries to professionals wearing PPE are far less extensive than the amateurs not wearing PPE. Which is he? The young man who thinks he's invincible, the experienced worker who hasn't had an accident so thinks he won't, or someone who doesn't care about himself, his livelihood, and the important people in his life? Which is he? You see the skill, but the dangers to anyone doing what he is doing remain. Research the risks and statistics and then see how your perspective changes. My loved one is skilled and takes risks, but he knows the difference between preventable and non-preventable injuries and that I don't celebrate and won't tolerate him taking unnecessary risks. Also, he doesn't want to model unsafe behavior for younger people. You're right: he's a grown-up. But as another grown-up I think he could make better choices. This is something I care about strongly: especially my eyesight and hearing I protect diligently after working in a machine-shop environment and I love rock concerts but I wear earplugs and still hear fine. Also, I had a deaf boyfriend and I know how isolating it can be to not hear well. I also stopped attending a church because the worship music was deafening--you couldn't hear yourself or those around you! Interestingly, I've read that the whir of a hard-drive creates high frequency sounds that can damage a computer user's hearing. There are so many hidden dangers out there; why not be proactive and minimize the ones you know about?

    1. Those are well good points.

He has been in the hospital for a week even requiring a skin graft dye to a chainsaw injury when a boom truck he was working on moved.

      He knows the risks.

I'm not going to tell him how to do his job. Sometimes you will see him with gloves, glasses, and eat protection...other times not.

He is his own man. He is responsible for his own risks.

    2. He also smokes and I don't get on him for that. I'm not changing him...I embrace him risky behavior and all.

Honestly I wouldn't be anymore comfortable with him using a chainsaw with additional protection. When he got cut it was into his forearm. Unavoidable.

You make great points and in the past I could have written it myself and I appreciate your perspective and street smarts. I think everything you wrote is valid.

For some reason at this point in my life (having a hard time pinning down the right word) I'm just more...relaxed? Maybe stupid? Preoccupied? Trust him to take care of himself? I don't think in terms of wishing he would or suggesting he do something different when it comes to his work.

Over the weekend we wore ear protection when we chipped...but he doesn't when he saws while climbing. I'll ask him why but there's likely a reason.

It's kind of odd but his climbing safety is on point with his tie offs and ropes. I briefly asked him about it before but we must have gotten side tracked.

      Thank you for the comment.
