Missing cali...but she is happy out on the couch. Until I find a new place I'm sharing a bed with my ex and space is limited.
I best be getting out on my own again in her lifetime, I need cali snuggles!
I'm hitting up dime a dozen retail jobs this weekend. Waiting around for and after interviews is for the birds. I need some pt gig in between.
Would love a farm job but it's a hard time of year to get farm work.
Haven't heard back from last weeks interview yet.
I live close to a horse racing track and might try to get work just doing stalls there..though it's through the individual horse owners so I need to make some calls in the racing community.
Not sure I'm up for exposing myself to more ethical conflicts which I'm sure will be present in the care and treatment of the horses...but what the hay!
Have you ever used this site? www.pasafarming.org It's the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture but this time of year, plenty of farms from other areas are posting for positions they have available - current and upcoming season. They also allow free posting, so if you wanted you could send in an ad about what kind of position you're looking for. In the ads, "region" refers to region of Pennsylvania, but out-of-state is anywhere else. Best of luck! ~AM

OK, I WILL STOP NOW!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome...3 promising horse jobs and I sent emails on 2 of them and one is in exchange for rent. I could get out of this living situation and potentially do 2 additional barns. If I got some "real" farming work to fill in the daily gaps I'd be golden! Still trying to do full time farming out of this area but this would absolutely get me moving in the right direction. Thank you!
DeleteSure, no problem. That site saved me during a 3 month period in my life when I needed to transition from one old life to something new. It was a part-time - live above a barn situation and muck stalls (I don't even know how to ride, but I shovel like a mo fo...), but it helped launch me out of a bad situation to one where I didn't have to depend on anyone else. I knew it wasn't my forever, but it was a just right "meantime." I think the reason I got the job is b/c I was ready to walk out of my old life and into theirs on a dime. They needed somebody starting the next week and I couldn't get out fast enough - if you know what I mean....I saw no ethical issues b/c it was just a rich person's boarding facility. The horses had each other and saw their "favorite" humans on the weekends. I loved the bond and felt like I helped the horses have consistency when their rich humans couldn't or wouldn't see them everyday. They got all the food, care and exercise they needed. Maybe I was naïve and missing something, but it seemed legit to me.
ReplyDeleteReady got one email.back. wouldn't be the first (or millionth) stall I've done and won't be the last. Its how those situations work. As long as the horses are tended to correctly and the barn/property is clean the poodles don't care who is taking care of the horses as long as the horses are taken care of.
DeleteI actually have an alternative potential rental situation If I can get a job lined up...and if the current tenant leaves to Europe as planned. I think I'll need a local gig for 6 months to a year before I really real deal transition out of the area. I'm getting pumped! Still haven't heard back.from my job interview last week and have a potential job in PA...but who knows you might have just saved my skin!

Geez- I WANT to move there and do it. hahahaha (kidding)
ReplyDeleteAnd its great you have lots of balls in the air and things in the works. Would be AWESOME if you got more than one and had CHOICES!! Keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteOr do a few. Housing/$/physical work. I need that all.so desperately! I've gained 40lbs since June and don't even recognize myself :( I need a break and to.get back.on track!
DeleteYou are a gorgeous woman and this is a blip in time. Its up to you how much longer it continues, right? You have high standards for not just everyone else, but yourself too. I bet that 40lbs is gone before this June.
ReplyDelete...but my brothers wedding is in May ;)
Deleteyes, I am in control! It's hard when I feel so powerless in so many areas of my life.
haha, okay, chubs - then you will be about 5 to 10 pounds more than you would like in May, but hell, you were prolly too skinny anyway. You are in control of your ethics which most people NEVER attain...
DeleteI won't be at my previous weight unless I'm fulltime farming/heavy lifting all day like I was with the pigs. Being able to zip and button my pants is the goal. Being heavy is SO.uncomfortable.
DeleteI hope you know I was kidding anyway. I have no idea what putting on 40 lbs would be like, but I am sure its tough on your joints and unpleasant. I went from 130 to 152, but its been over about a 10 year period, so I think my body has adjusted slowly. Tho my knees are starting to hate me.......I hope you can get where you want to be before your metabolism slows down like mine did!!
