400 polling locations in 2008 down to 60 in 2016. Decision was made by Helen Purcell wife of late Lt.Gov under Bill Clinton. In addition AZ ran out of ballots and people had their party affiliation changed mysteriously. There should be a re-vote in AZ in the name of democracy. Voter suppression is no joke no matter who your candidate is. I have really had my eyes opened this election.
Arizona is disgusting, go to Taos NM where there are hippies and artsy fartsie folks living in earth ships, unless you try Bisbee Az Plus, be careful, they have a water crisis out there, plus Trumps gonna build that wall, UFO's yah fun
My grandma and all my great aunts live there and love it. We go stay for vacations and the winter weather is beautiful. Gets very uncomfortable in summer but there is so much to see and do. If we were able to, we would spend our winters there for sure
My friends who went to ASU said the snakes in their yard and in trails were very dangerous for their dogs, but I guess we have dangerous snakes on the east coast albeit different ones. I just recalled she liked it there but always bitched about the snakes!
My Dad and Step-Mom live in Tucson, and they love it. But that said, my Dad is always "spraying for" scorpions and termites. I visited there during the winter and it was so brown and, in my opinion, depressing. I enjoy the four season Wisconsin offers and I don't mind the cold and snow. I didn't drink enough water and did get really dehydrated. There is a lot of stuff to do, but there is always something to do or not to do anywhere. My Dad is also irritated with the politics and polling places there.
I'm really worried about the heat...both for myself and dogs.
I'm driving out with the dogs in May for a 2 week trial.
The job is an outside job. I'm not partial to the desert landscape but who knows maybe I'll enjoy it for a year or so? I know next to nothing about that part of the country. It would certainly be a learning experience.
I lived in Tucson for about one year. Over 6 months of 100+ heat. The city water is horrible, made me sick. Tiny apartment with a swamp cooler at first, no regular AC. They say Arizona is a "dry heat" - don't try living with a swamp cooler. It basically cools the air by running it through a tank of water, which turns 100+ dry heat into daily 100+ Virginia tidewater swamp heat. Every. Damn. Day. For over half the year.
Then I tried moving to the outskirts of the city. If you don't live in town you have to haul your own water out to your property - and you'll pay out the nose for it, and you'll need a truck to cart it, and you won't be taking regular showers when it's 100+ every day for 6+ months of the year.
I think it's an incredible place to visit, and I've been back to visit many times. I particularly love hiking on Mt.Lemmon & the surrounding mountain ranges, with an 8000+ elevation it can be 20-40 degrees cooler in the summer.
Too bloody hot. I have relatives there and have visited at different times of the year. In the summer, the tap water running through the pipes at night is still HOT. ugh. AZ desert in the summer is not bearable for humans (and most other mammals) without a huge power (A/C) and water input.
Arizona has certainly been fucking it's voters over lately!
ReplyDeleteHaving to wait hours to vote in our society is insane! I saw a video where some waited 4+ hours.

I will never live there again.
There's on farm "housing" (a RV with ac and plumbing).
DeleteI know they do have to truck water in weekly for the pigs.
